"I am ready to face head-on the stereotypes that pigeon hole women to a sideline existence once they reach a certain age. In my world view, I am just entering the second half of my life. That means I have quite a long way still to go, and many goals yet to achieve!" Debra Gilmour, MORE Magazine.com May 2009
Today, pageant titleholders and hopeful contestants of numerous systems from Oregon and Washington gathered in Lake Oswego for a full day workshop to share information, learn valuable competition tips, and make new friendships.
At this year's annual event the ladies had a full slate of presenters including Mrs. International 06 Suzy Bootz, Mrs. Oregon International 07 Tamara Wissbaum, Mrs. Oregon America 07 and Mrs. Oregon Int'l 04 Kimberly Takla, the reigning Miss Oregon Teen USA 09 and 08 Miss Oregon Int'l Cara Nardini, Miss Oregon Int'l 09 Jessica Carlson and Miss Teen Oregon Int'l Sheilja Patel, as well as fitness experts, and interview coaches from whom the ladies received valuable insight about all things pageant. As the 2009 national titleholder for Beauties of America's 50s, and former winner of Mrs. Oregon International (2008) and Mrs. Oregon America (1988), I shared the Keys To Successfully Promoting Your Platform and Title, drawing on my experiences.
Attendees had chances to win door prizes, receive gifts from sponsors and take home lots of information about competing for local, state, and national pageant titles. It was also a chance to "talk to the experts" one on one during lunch as the queens divided up, giving every attendee a chance to chat with a queen or two per table and take lots of pictures.
Thank you Lesley Nardini, Executive Director of Oregon International Pageants for asking me to be a part of this fun and fabulous event. It was great to see so many titleholders together from across many pageant systems, and sharing their passion for pageantry!
