Debra Gilmour To Emcee Finale of Portland Teen Idol 5th Season





DOWN TO ONLY ELEVEN TO REPRESENT PORTLAND 11 talented teens are chosen to go on to the Portland Teen Idol Finale.

Portland, Oregon – June 3rd, 2011 – Teen program Portland Teen Idol” announces the top eleven (11) finalists that will represent Portland over the next year during their tour. With much excitement, tears and cheers the 25 semi-finalists have been cut by more than half to just short of a dozen that will go on tour.

OMPA Executive Director Tom McFadden made a guest appearance and addressed the crowd of some 200 spectators at the Tiffany Center’s Emerald Ballroom. OMPA is the largest nonprofit association for commercial, film and TV professionals in Oregon.

Semi-final judges Ian James and Madison Shanley had tough decisions as they had the daunting task of narrowing down the list. Professional DJ and Emcee Shawn Whittmore of Event Team Entertainment (www.EventTeamEnt.com) hosted the event. Whittmore has hosted some 1200 events over his 15 year career including having once taught Bill Gates how to do the Macarena.

List of the 11 finalists in alphabetical order are: Keeley Anderson, Kiersten Bundy, Margaret Driscoll, Andy Hunt, Haley Jones, Rebecca Strott, Emily Syphus, Kara Thibault, Haley Ward, Alexis Whitney & Jereme Wilkie. The semi finalists went home but they will be able to perform one concert this summer.

Last step is the Finale occurring on Saturday, June 18th, 2011 at the prestigious Tiffany Center in their Emerald Ballroom at 1 pm. Teens will sing two songs for up to two minutes with music accompaniment in front of live judges and collectively sing a group song and at the end of the day there will be a winner, two runner ups and 8 finalists that will all go on tour. Crowd participation will help make the decision.

Debra Gilmour, two time Mrs. Oregon and 2009 national winner of the Beauties of America pageant will emcee the finale show.  Gilmour, currently featured in the June 2011 issue of MORE Magazine, is well known as an outspoken advocate for alcohol and drug abuse prevention programs having served as a liaison to the Oregon Governor's Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs and the Governor's Advisory Committee of DUII.  As a volunteer for the American Heart Association, she was also featured in a video for the Go Red For Women program.

Michael Allen Harrison & Geoff Byrd will be judging the final round. A local favorite, Harrison has had the honor of performing at the United Nations, at the World Peace Conference in Hague, has received awards from NASA for air play in space and is known for being a generous and passionate artist. He is also the founder of the Snowman Foundation. Byrd, in addition to many Grammy nominations, has been featured in dozens of magazines, radio & television programs and toured with Hall & Oats. He is also the founder and CEO of Kids Record Hits which will be working with the winner to develop a song as a prize.
